My Top 3 Books for Writers

I’m sticking with the theme of Books for August, so I thought, why not another book list? This one is a little different: I wanted to put together a short list of great books specifically for writers. These are three of my favorites!

The Anatomy of Story by John Truby. A book that breaks down all aspects of a story, whether it be a novel or a screenplay, this particular work can help you determine how you want your story to be shaped, and how best to make that happen.

The Language Construction Kit by Mark Rosenfelder. If you’re like me and like to get completely immersed in your story, you may want to consider creating a language just for your book. In that case, this is the book for you! Jam-packed with tips, tricks, and all you need to think about to create your own constructed language, this book is an invaluable resource.

How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster. This book was a great read, specifically for showing how certain aspects of story can present themselves to readers. I highly recommend it for when you are considering what you want your readers to take away from your work.

Do you have any books on writing that changed your life, or that you just can’t live without? Share them in the comments!

Thanks for reading!
